Performance includes:

  • Tiffany Haughn’s dynamic group piece The Lines We Draw, which examines the prejudices that each of us harbor whether consciously or not and how these biases effect the relationship with ourselves and others.
  • A new multimedia work by Tina Fratello in collaboration with writer Nick Paciejeski that addresses “It is not what you think, but how you think.”
  • darlingdance company performs Hayley Cutler’s Ugly Things: Againandagainandagain  – an exploration of sacrifice, an admission of defeat, a declaration of guilt.
  • Vladimir Angelov’s Face-A-Book that questions if real books might be the only way to dig deeper, to stimulate our imagination without boundaries in a technology filled society.

Two companies present six choreographers in a one night only show!

DancEthos Artistic Director Tiffany Haughn examines the strength and vulnerability of motherhood in Revealed and the dangers of miscommunication in a new work with original music composition by Roc Lee. Guest choreographer Erica Rebollar’s Rick’s Dream takes you on a fast paced romp through the REM cycle of sleep, as disjointed ideas overlap in the mind’s stream of consciousness.

alight dance theater Artistic Director Angella Foster tells the story of a starry night in Stargazing, from the spectacular death of a star to the splendor visible from our own backyards. Dependent, by alight resident choreographer Wayles Haynes, investigates the public perception and personal experience of military families in this contemporary era of war.

Additional works by DancEthos choreographers Gabrielle Campagna and Rick Westerkamp explore diverse spatial patterns with a large cast of dancers and reflect on the best days of your life.

Celebrating the end of our 4th performance season as well as the new and improved theater of Dance Place, DancEthos presents a mix of new works and past highlights. Audience and dancer favorites we will be re-setting include Artistic Director Tiffany Haughn’s exploration of living with a life-threatening illness in “The In Between” (2012), Assistant Director Carolyn Kamrath’s quirky “Breathe.Shift.Repeat.” (2010) and Gabrielle Campagna’s humorous use of paint cans in “Semigloss” (2011). Plus a new duet from Haughn celebrating the connections formed by DancEthos, premiere works by Kamrath and company member Elizabeth Odell Catlett, and performances by guest artists Althea Skinner, Sylvana Christopher, and Tina Fratello.

We are honored to once again be sharing the stage with The West Shore Piano Trio, who will be performing the compositions of Astor Piazzolla and Johannes Brahms.


The performance features the choreography of Artistic Director Tiffany Haughn, company member Rick Westerkamp and guest choreographers Ronya-Lee Anderson, Felipe Oyarzun, Erica Rebollar and Deborah Riley.


22 gorgeous dancers + 6 inspired choreographers + 3 brilliant musicians + 1 skilled spoken word artist = an amazing collaborative experience! This diverse and dynamic program will showcase dance, poetry and live music that ranges from absurd to earnest and haunting to playful.

Petworth Dance Project

DancEthos is thrilled to be participating in the inaugural performance of the Petworth Dance Project! This outdoor dance series will feature some of DC’s most exciting dance companies. Please join us Saturday May 9th at 7pm on the lawn of the Petworth Recreation Center at 801 Taylor St NW for a free, family-friendly event. Some blankets will be provided, but feel free to bring your own!

You’ll be dazzled by Rick Westerkamp’s premiere of “what touches will dissolve.” in collaboration with DC-based spoken word artist Sarah D. Lawson. This athletic romp explores the endless possibilities that arise when you are willing to turn your world upside down – literally and figuratively. Also on the bill is a solo excerpt of Vladimir Angelov’s stunning “Framework” danced by the always lovely Vanessa Rowan. And lastly, Rick Westerkamp will perform a solo excerpt from the acclaimed Erica Rebollar’s “Rick’s Dream”. As if that’s not enough to entice you, we will also be sharing the stage with Motion X Dance DC and Maru Montero Dance Company.

Our very own Rick Westerkamp will be teaching a masterclass Friday May 8th from 6:30 to 8:00pm at Dance Loft on 14 (4618 14th St NW, Washington, DC 20009). This contemporary dance class is open to all levels and the cost is $10 (cash only). If you have never taken a class with Rick, you are missing out!
